Video storytelling – a royally good operation
The challenge
The coronation of King Charles III was a momentous occasion, not just for the UK but also globally, being the first of its kind since 1953. Operation Golden Orb, the policing operation, was one of the largest security operations the Met has led. Around 30,000 officers were deployed over the bank holiday weekend, so it was important that clear communication was prepared to ensure officers and staff had all the information they needed to successfully police the event and keep everyone safe.
The solution
Through a process of storyboarding with key stakeholders, we established the key messages and compiled all the factual and confidential information. We wanted content to reassure officers who were new to an event of this scale and provide Gold and Silver command with a direct route to briefing everyone involved.
We created two informative videos comprising bespoke graphics, stock footage, interviews with specialist officers and a voiceover to deliver a clear message of what officers and staff should expect operationally, and from a standards and professional conduct perspective.
The results
Through creative storytelling the videos communicated the context of the event, equipped officers and staff with details of what they could expect from policing such events, the timings and key welfare information.
The videos were released a week before each event. The videos were showcased during team briefings, uploaded to MS Teams channels, and added to all operational notices and the dedicated operational hub. Both videos were played on digital screens in communal areas of several Met locations and formed part of a slide deck used by senior leaders.
Why we love it
“It was a real privilege being part of this grand occasion, even in such a small way. Working with a variety of stakeholders in London was great fun as we developed two informative, impactful videos that helped prepare the huge number of officers and staff involved.”
