Pro bono communication is a dogs’ tale
The challenge
A former client of ours, Sylvie Newham, had always harboured an ambition to write a children’s book to raise money for charity. When looking after her grandchild Poppy, the pair started to make up stories about Sylvie’s beloved dogs Harley and Brucie. Before long, The Adventures of Harley Farley and Brucie Lucy: Tibetan Terrier Tales began to take shape. The story was ready to go – Sylvie just needed a little help bringing it to life. And that’s where our pro bono communication support came in.
The solution
This was the perfect opportunity for Designer Jess Riley and Project Manager Amie Pryal to show off their creativity to complete the story. They collaborated with Sylvie and set about creating an illustrative style which included elements of Sylvie’s drawings, as well as her favourite existing children’s books. Amie put pencil to paper and sketched the characters, and Jess created them using Adobe Illustrator, adding in colours, textures and backgrounds.
The results
Through our pro bono communication support, The Adventures of Harley Farley and Brucie Lucy: Tibetan Terrier Tales were transformed into a hardback children’s book, complete with beautiful illustrations showing off the dogs’ cheeky personalities. Sales from the book are currently being used to place dogs in new homes, with Sylvie’s next step to share the story with canine charities close to her heart. Sales from the book are being used to place needy dogs in new homes, and it’s hoped the proceeds will benefit other charities in the future.
Why we love it
“What I like about 44 Community is that it gives pro bono communication skills to worthwhile causes. It was great being able to make Harley and Brucie’s personalities come to life on the page.”
