Helping a homeless charity with pro bono communications
“It all looks fantastic. I’m so grateful to everyone at 44 who gave their time and effort. The pro bono communications support has been invaluable, and the site looks a million times better than it did before!”
CEO, Helping Hands
Helping Hands is a Warwickshire charity giving vital support, advice and opportunities to people who are homeless, recently homed or surviving on low incomes. The charity’s website is a key touchpoint for anyone wanting to support or donate, but it wasn’t easily navigated or understood, becoming a potential barrier to much-needed help. As a small organisation the charity didn’t have funds to spare, so we offered pro bono specialist communications support.
Our solution was to help future-proof the organisation with a digital content strategy for their external website. We put together a 20-page report suggesting how the website should develop, including a new tone of voice and style guide to give the charity’s volunteers one point of reference and help make all communications consistent. We also created a clearly defined homepage design for clear navigability.
“The pro bono communications support from 44 really helped us clarify our tone of voice and get the essence of who we are on the page,” said the manager of the Helping Hands web team. “We’ve had some really great feedback already, and the exercise got us thinking more widely about how we get the right info in the right places for our different audiences.”
Why we love it
“I’m very proud of how our pro bono communications programme lets us give something back to the community in which we all live and work. The charities we help get the benefit of our expertise and, as a team, we gain new experiences and develop our knowledge too.”
