The challenge

Over its 90-year history, electrical distributor Rexel UK has grown by bringing together smaller brands. That meant many of the company’s 3,000 employees identified with their brand or branch, rather than the wider Rexel. Mindful of challenger brands emerging in the market, and ever-changing customer needs, Rexel began an ambitious transformation programme – One Rexel.

The solution

Seizing the opportunity to do something completely different from anything the business had done before, Rexel on the Road was born. Branded trailer trucks were kitted out with TV screens, facilitator boards and giveaways before hitting the road to host two-hour, interactive, ‘Welcome on Board’ sessions with all employees. Over the three-month operation, 240 Rexel on the Road sessions ran in more than 90 locations around the UK.

The results

This colossal operation reached more than 2,150 employees, with everyone asked for feedback. As well as showing five key areas employees felt most strongly about, this also sourced more than 300 suggestions for how the business could achieve its ambitions. Feedback showed Rexel on the Road had created a clear understanding among employees about how the business works, its purpose and plans for the future.
