Charity cake-off a sweet success
Team 44 stepped up to the plate to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society by getting hands-on with a baking fundraiser…
It was almost a baker’s dozen as 12 members of the 44 family donned their aprons in a bid to impress with their cleverest cake creations for our charity cake-off.
There were a fair few contenders in the mix, from Sarah’s show-stopping triple-tiered carrot cake – complete with cute iced bunny – to Amy’s gorgeously rich and creamy chocolate orange cupcakes. The selection was both scrummy and sizable.
There was so much choice, in fact, our team was given a three-day window to sample the sumptuous treats (all in the interest of fairness, of course).
Who would come out on top when the judges gave their verdict? Would Emily’s devilishly dreamy dark chocolate peanut butter cups earn a handshake? Would Zoe’s brilliantly crunchy and buttery maple biscuits make the grade? Or would Rob’s fresh and fruity strawberry and vanilla sponges win the day?
After our sugar rush subsided we took to a vote, and the results are in.
The outcome threatened to cause a Twitter-storm as Ellie was crowned star baker with her lip-smackingly sweet and sticky Golden Syrup flapjacks, decoratively drizzled in dark chocolate. She was declared a worthy winner after revealing it was the first time she’d tried the recipe, a favourite of her talented mum.
Our cake-off left us with full tummies and warm hearts. Our baking efforts saw us raise a mouthwatering £173 for the Alzheimer’s Society – proving our charity fundraiser was a real recipe for success!
