Meet our non-stop Communications Specialist and Account Director Jo Williams, who says she’s so pleased to have made the big leap into a new role – after 25 years with the same firm…

When did you join 44? And what is your role here?

I’ve been with 44 for four months now. I joined as Communications Specialist and Account Director looking after some of our key clients, including Volkswagen Group, Boehringer Ingelheim, National Police Chiefs Council and NFU Mutual. I support clients with their internal communications planning and execution, creating projects that connect employees and enhance engagement.

Where were you before you joined 44?

I was with large professional services firm, Arup for (gulp!) 25 years. I held several positions in marketing, communications and business development, so my experience covers campaigns, external messaging and employee engagement through to bidding, client delivery and customer relationship management.

How have you found working here?

After so many years with a large corporate firm, I am loving the friendly-family feel that an agency brings. My experience in leading a busy communications department and working to tight deadlines has not gone to waste – from preparing proposals and planning marketing campaigns through to developing creative solutions for our many clients – there’s never a dull moment in agency life.

What has surprised you about the role?

I’ve surprised myself! It was a big step to change careers after so long in one place. Everyone at 44 has been so welcoming and it’s so refreshing to be learning again. I’m feeling really energised and would definitely advise others that may be thinking of a change to make the leap.

What has been the most enjoyable part?

I love being part of a responsive and hard-working team which really wants to make a difference for our clients, which strives for better and doesn’t forget to have fun along the way.

What do you think you bring to the 44 party?

I’d like to think I bring my experience of working with large corporate organisations, my natural enthusiasm for success and my strong project management and organisational skills.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be? And what three words would your friends use?

Now that’s a tricky one! I think I would describe myself as positive, nurturing and driven. And for the last part I asked my friend for her thoughts – she said dependable, kind and fun. I’ll pay her later!

What do you get up to when you’re not at work?

When I’m not working, you’ll find me in the garden with my cockapoo! Spring is my favourite season, so I spent last weekend planting pansies, primulas and hyacinths, and bringing some much-needed colour to the garden. I’ll also be planting my vegetable seeds soon. I love nothing more than picking my veggies on a Sunday morning and preparing them for a large family roast.

What are you especially looking forward to in 2022?

Like many I’m sure, I am excited about finally getting away on a holiday abroad for the first time in three years. After gardening, I love travelling to new places, and this year, with my husband and 12-year-old son, we’re off to Mexico. I’m really looking forward to visiting the Aztec pyramids and enjoying the lovely Mexican food!
