Inspired by the finale of the Great British Bake Off, we decided to set our own culinary challenge.
The brief was to create a popular biscuit, with the option to replicate a shop-staple or put a spin on a much-loved classic.
And though there was no judging involved (we’re all ‘Star Bakers’ in our eyes!), there was certainly a lot of taste testing and complimenting going on.
The selection of goodies was varied and included everything from Jo’s joyous Jammy Dodgers and Emily’s chunky Chocolate Bourbons, to Corin’s crunchy Gingernuts and Nick’s hearty Hobnobs. Even those working remotely got in on the action, with Jess scoring a box of scrummy homemade millionaire shortbread.
As well as giving people the opportunity to sample each other’s brilliant bakes, the 44 Bake Off was also arranged to help raise money for charity. With a donation required for each biscuit sampled, bringing in our homemade sweet treats helped us to raise more than £130. After discussion among the team, we decided to support Myton Hospice, a local charity that many 44 colleagues have a personal connection to. We’ll be fundraising for Myton for the first half of 2022, so keep an eye on our website for more fun, money-raising activities.
And that’s how we do it at 44 – nothing is half-baked!
